Annika Gromig

With 9+ years of experience as a Product Designer and UX Lead, I align systems, people, and pixels and care just as much about how something works as how it looks.

expertise

Product Design

01

Making complicated things feel simple.

I turn technical products and AI/ML capabilities into experiences people actually want to use, leaning on AI throughout my process to explore ideas fast and move from rough concept to polished solution.

UX Strategy

02

Getting people moving in the same direction.

I bring design and engineering together, run workshops, and help teams turn messy problems into clear, actionable direction.

Design Systems

03

Making good design scale.

I build design systems and component libraries that give teams a shared language, so design stays consistent as it ships faster.

Brand Identity

04

Making the whole thing feel like one thing.

As founding designer at Jozu/KitOps, I built the brand from the ground up, visual language, voice, and the details that connect product and marketing.

experience

Jozu

Jozu is an AI/ML infrastructure company focused on making the model lifecycle secure, governed, and easy to manage. Helping teams handle everything from model versioning to deployment with the same rigor traditionally applied to software supply chains.

As founding designer, I led UX across the platform that help teams securely manage the AI/ML model lifecycle, from versioning and packaging to deployment. I worked closely with engineers and data scientists to turn complex technical concepts into products people can actually understand and use.

I set the UX vision and strategy, owned the work end-to-end from research through advocacy, and built the design systems the team still relies on today.

The product is now used by 25,000+ people that executed 440,000+ tasks, and the Jozu & KitOps marketing site has reached 2M+ visitors.

KitOps

KitOps is an open-source CNCF project, built by Jozu, that packages AI/ML models, datasets, and code into secure, portable artifacts.

I built the KitOps brand from scratch, including its logo, visual identity, and overall design language for a security-focused open-source packaging tool, and worked as the project's sole designer across product, brand, and community. That work helped the project grow to 1,400+ GitHub stars and 300,000+ downloads.

Between agency roles, I worked independently across insurance, media, real estate, professional sports (Bundesliga), telecom, and tech.

Selected Projects:

MainAqila

The official mobile app for Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt, used by fans for matchday services and stadium experiences.

I optimized user flows, especially around stadium parking and live event features, and adapted layouts from mobile to tablet so the experience held up across screen sizes. I also built and documented a Figma library to speed up future design work.

PropRate

A platform for comparing and analyzing real estate investment opportunities (now inactive).

I redesigned the dashboard and blog pages to improve usability and visual clarity, and built a new responsive menu structure to make navigation easier across devices. I also prototyped new features, including an "object analysis" tool for evaluating properties.

AXA

The leading insurance company was undergoing a company-wide agile transformation.

I led creative workshops with AXA team members to define a guiding theme for the transformation, then conceptualized and set up an online learning platform based on that theme to help support employees through the transition.

NetCologne is a leading regional internet provider based in the Cologne metropolitan area, Germany.

I headed the design team and owned the overall UX strategy, building a modular design system and clearer process flows along the way.

I also redesigned the customer service center and company website for both B2C and B2B audiences.

Avenga is a design and IT engineering consultancy based in Cologne, Germany, working on software products across a range of industries and clients.

I delivered intuitive, responsive design across a wide range of software product projects, building design systems that were adopted across multiple product teams.

I also led quantitative and qualitative usability testing to guide design decisions along the way.

A distinctive identity for Open-Source ML

Built KitOps’ visual identity from the ground up, from logo and visual system to illustrations, themes, and the “Kernel Krunch” mascot, giving a technical developer product a recognizable and strong personality.

about

A little about me

I’m a Senior Product Designer from Germany, now based in Vancouver, BC. I moved to Canada with my family in 2021, drawn by the mountains, the outdoors, and the chance to live a little closer to nature.

I like good design, curious people, and solving problems that don’t have an obvious answer. I’m happiest when I can get stuck into something complex, make sense of it, and turn it into an experience that feels simple and natural.

What gets me excited

When I’m not designing, I’m usually running, swimming, exploring the backcountry, or finding a good excuse to get outside. I also like slowing things down with watercolor sketches and baking bread, usually sourdough (Dumbledough is still going strong).

I’m a bit of a space nerd too, so I’ll happily get distracted by a good space documentary or a late-night rabbit hole about something happening somewhere very, very far away. And I’ll get unnecessarily excited whenever Andy Weir announces a new novel. I love books.
